He is known for having donated large sums of money in a failed effort to defeat President George W. Bush’s bid for re-election in 2004. He supported Democrat Barack Obama in the 2008 U.S. presidential election.

The Trilateral Commission is a private organization, established to foster closer cooperation between America, Europe and Japan. It was founded in July 1973, at the initiative of David Rockefeller; who was Chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations at that time.
